NCLB Waiver has Local Impact

The state of Ohio has applied for a waiver from the federal No Child Left Behind law, and this will have an impact on local parents and students. In regard to parents and students in the Xenia Community Schools, the school choice option will go away.  In the 2012-13 school year, only students who are currently under school choice in the 2011-2012 school year will be permitted to stay in the school they chose.

No other students will be enrolled under school choice due to the waiver.  Xenia parents that used school choice to enroll at Simon Kenton or Tecumseh in 2011-2012 will only have this option if they notify us they wish to remain and should notify us by April 20, 2012.  (Cheryl Bentley at 578 Market Street, 937-562-9010)

All other students who are open enrolled must apply for open enrollment to remain at any school they are currently open enrolled in.  Please be advised these students will be under the current open enrollment policy.

The open enrollment period is on-going and will close at 3:30pm. April 18, 2012. Please go to the Xenia Board of Education office, 578 East Market Street to complete the open enrollment process.

If parents want the opportunity for your child to be considered to stay in a school where they have been open enrolled, the parent must complete the open enrollment form for 2012-2013.

The NCLB Wavier is the responsibility of the Ohio Department of Education. We are simply reporting the facts as we know them.
